Community Planning Pilots
The three Pilot Projects operated in the council areas of:
- Belfast
- Derry and Strabane
- Omagh and Fermanagh
In Belfast the City Council was the lead partner working with the five Belfast Area Partnerships, Community Places, the Public Health Agency and Belfast HSC Trust and the new Joint Health Development Unit (set up jointly between the Council, the Public Health Agency and the Belfast HSC Trust).
Derry City Council led a consortium comprising: Strabane District Council, North West Community Network, Strabane and District Community Network, Groundwork and Creative Edge Consulting.
Covering the Fermanagh and Omagh areas the ‘Engage’ consortium was led by the Rural Development Council and included dcp communications, dpp planning consultancy and streets-uk.
Community Places prepared an overall report on the learning from the three Pilot Projects this has also informed the development of the Toolkit. Among the core outputs from the Pilots were:
- a Belfast Model for Community Planning
- two Local Community Plans - one for the Waterside area of Derry City Council and the other for the Glenelly area in Strabane
- a local resource toolkit for community engagement in Omagh and Fermanagh
